Music x Determination: Lesson Plan on The Carrot Seed x The Climb

主題 (Topic)：

毅力與決心(Perseverance & Determination)

STEP 1 : Warm up discussion (SLIDE 1, see below)

1) Group discussion: What do you need to do to grow a plant? What does it take to harvest a plant?

2) Follow TSAI to have class discussions

STEP 2: 9-box Grid Reading Comprehension (SLIDE 2, see below)

1) Finish the comprehension check of the 9-box grid and answer the question:

STEP 3: Take a Step Further (SLIDE 3, see below)

1) Group discussions on the 3 questions:

STEP 4: Cross reading—The Carrot Seed vs The Climb by Miley Cyrus

(Students are provided with lyrics)

1) play the music video (SLIDE 4, see below):

 

2) Students answer the three questions using the lines from the lyrics. One question, one line.

3) Follow TSAI to have class discussions

A1: There is a voice inside my head saying. You'll never reach it.

A2: My faith is shakin'

A3: It's all about the climb.

4) Go over the definition of determination (SLIDE 5, see below)

STEP 5: Found Poem (SLIDE 6, See below)

Students in groups write a found poem based on The Carrot Seed and The Climb. 
Topic: What is to be Determined (The song may be played as the background music while students are working on the tasks.)
