文豪雨果<<鐘樓怪人>>故事中的女角Esmeralda(愛絲梅蘭達 )，是個吉普賽舞孃，是當時法國社會中被鄙視被遺棄的邊緣人，影片中的情節是她為鐘樓怪人Quasimodo(加席莫多)飽受群眾凌辱之際挺身而出後，受到大法官Frollo(佛洛羅)的憤怒追殺因而躲到了教堂中所唱出的祈願。
一個彷彿毫無價值又低賤的波西米亞人，一個看似代表正義又高尚的大法官，在品格照妖鏡下讓我們剝去外表與身分地位，看見真實的美麗。
此刻，我們與影片中的艾絲梅蘭達一起唱著「請神幫助被遺棄的人，神的孩子。」

This masterpiece of Hugo poignantly depicts the ugliness and beauty of human beings. Esmeralda, a typical outcast, is viewed by the self-righteous judge, Frollo, as a mere lowly Gypsy. And yet, this "despicable" Gypsy is the only person that stands out for the needy, Quasimodo, a loyal, kind, and humble being but mistreated for the way he looks. Then for doing what is right, she is chased by outrageous Frollo into the Cathedral. There, she prays and sings in desperation as holding the shield of truth, God help the outcasts, children of God.
