【Activities三好教室上課囉:閱讀 x 3層次閱讀提問設計 3-Level Reading Questions】
STEP 1: A
quick warm-up that gears students toward the topic and offers
definitions/explanations about topic-relevant ideas when necessary.
STEP 2: Reading
& Discussions in Class: Have students skim the reading and discuss the
given questions (In my class, students working in groups are required to write
down their answers and post them on our Line groups).
The 3-4 questions would include 3 levels:
Level
1: One question about students' personal experiences about the topic/theme
Level
2: One question that requires skimming the reading
Level
3: One question that fosters critical thinking on the reading
STEP 3: Students
do the scanning/detailed reading as homework with the aid of comprehension
questions and Graphic Organizers (offered in most of the textbooks).
STEP 4: Sharing
and discussions in Class: Students in groups get themselves ready (up to 10
minutes) and then share their answers/ideas (Instruction of Triple Good Mechanism applied).
*STEP
1 & STEP 2 applied in the first class period of 50 minutes. STEP 4 applied
in the second class period of the unit. In short, it usually takes 2 class
periods of 50 minutes each to go through the complete process.
*The
three levels of the question design could also incorporate the idea of
"Global Deposition/Thinking" (check "Project Zero", led by
the Harvard University https://flipedu.parenting.com.tw/article/3355)
*Example: Far East B4L8- Saving the Louvre [遠東版B4L8]
I.
Warm Up: (What is Louvre? Where is it? READY to GO)
II. Read, Think, and Share
(1) What's good about arts?
(2)
What was saved?
(3)
If the saving had failed, what else could have been lost as well (e.g., to
France, to human history, to the world, etc.)?
III.
Class Discussions: use of Triple Good Mechanism
