Course: Grit x Integrated Skills: The Path to Success 恆毅力與英文讀寫說:邁向成功之路 (Vers. 30 hrs. 第3版,Oct. 2018)
Course Description:
This course aims to enhance students' holistic competencies of English language and oral presentation skills, while cultivating students' characters, grit in particular. Cooperative Learning Approach and Toward Social Aspirations Instruction (TSAI) are employed to foster Engagement-Thinking-Production (ETP). Based on Aristotelian virtue development (Kristjánsson, 2006), the course aims to build students' character as well as enhance their English proficiency by guiding them to analyze, discuss and finally give oral presentations on the grit elements (Duckworth, 2007) that the 2 role models display (i.e., Walt Disney & Jeremy Lin). Besides, to prepare students to complete the learning tasks, students will also do the guided reading of the book, Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance, by Angela Duckworth and explore deeper into the performance virtue of grit in class activities. In short, students are expected to connect and combine what they learn from the role models and the book as they read, listen, think, analyze, discuss and give presentations. Starting from analyzing the paragons' characters in terms of the four grit elements, students ultimately achieve their own success by exercising grit.
Suggested Levels: 11-12 graders
